Urban Drunk

I have lived inside the loop for over a decade. I thought I had that urban drunk thing down.
Now that I have lived downtown for a year, I realize I knew nothing.
I still don't think I could do the full #BillPowell

I smoke too much.
I drink too much.

I chase wild women.
Everything my parents told me would lead to ruin.
Guess Willie and Merle knew better than my folks.

On Death

John C. Calhoun is still dead.
Am I supposed to respect his family?

My St. Paul's

Funny, it's secular (for now)

compare to

Lot fewer Wernher von Braun projectiles nowadays.

Yay!

As If

I began my political responsibility as an ultra-conservative. I wanted the Kaiser to come back; and now I am a revolutionary. I really mean that. If I live to be a hundred I shall maybe be an anarchist, for an anarchist wants to do without all government.

And the canard goes, "people get more conservative as they get older."

I'm with Martin Niemöller.

Back in the day operatives had to board enemy submarines at sea to get code books.
They rebuilt partially burned mechanical encryption devices.
Now they are just captured from our clients.

Execution

And spouses used as hostage.

The Rosenberg Affair was one of the shoddiest examples of prosecutorial abuse in our recent history.

And now we learn that David Greenglass died in July.

RIP

And 935 is still named after our Beria?

Understated

Golly, leftists.
They're onto us.
We want to have great sex and make our own intimate, conscious, and
deeply personal reproductive decisions!
You can see why this stance is so unpopular!!!!

Thanks Thers!

Why I Hate Most Even-Numbered Anniversaries

On 25 June, the Battleship Texas was the flagship of the admiral in charge of Group 2 in
the Bombardment of Cherbourg.

Wonder if the President (of France) will give a speech.

Statement of Purpose (Lyrical)

No confundas mi postura, soy ateo y no creo en ningun dios,
no diferencio a las personas por su raza, su cultura o su mierda de religion!

Relegation

Mesut Özil has been an amazing addition to Arsenal.
I did not think Arsene Wenger (or the club for that matter) could still be creative enough to sign a player of his gifts. Being top of the Premiership starting week three was something I could imagine. But it would have been described as a fluke.
The actual results have not been a fluke.
Neither in the Premiership nor in the Champions League.
I am looking forward to this years Premiership more than I have in years.

Comedy of Errors

Curtis on MI5 reality:

After the first world war MI5 declined in importance. But with the growing fears of communism in the 1920s and 30s a new threat emerged - not just communist agents from abroad, but British communists who might betray their own country. In many cases they came from the same upper classes as those running the secret services. And a strange dance began - of toffs suspecting toffs.

"Bugger All!" is more like it.
Would anyone be surprised if the name Hoover shows up in further investigation?

Veronique Peck RIP

Nice summation of Mrs. Gregory Peck's life.
Especially this:
Much later, she told him why it had taken her so long to say yes. “I wasn’t going to tell you this,” she confessed, “but I had an interview that day with Dr. Albert Schweitzer.  At the apartment of Jean-Paul Sartre.”  Gregory famously replied,  “Well, you made the right choice, kiddo.”
I'm doing this whole life thing wrong.

Nice tradecraft.
Using an M.O.P. against a vole.
